Last November on an ordinary Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, I left my house to buy a sandwich at the end of my block and found myself among a sea of onlookers cheering on a cavalcade of marathon runners. I immediately was swept with emotion as tears began to well up underneath my sunglasses. Quickly my inexplicable tears gave way to jealousy and I vowed right then and there that I was indeed going to run my first marathon!
As the Style Features editor of Teen Vogue I pen a monthly column, keep up with emerging talent and industry luminaries, mentor teens, and cover the latest trends as well as style profile pieces as well as some of Hollywood’s brightest talents for the red carpet. Obviously a major part of job each day is to inspire and challenge Teen Vogue readers--many of which are young women. The Lower East Side Girls Club is a great place for young girls to develop leadership and learn how to reach their goals. Running the NYC marathon for the first time, I’m glad I am able to personally help and reach out to young girls by supporting an organization that works toward empowering them on a daily basis. I know I would not be the same without the strong women who have always been in my life and continue to shape the person that I am.
Growing up in Colorado, I’m no stranger to athletic outdoor activities, but I have never tested myself the way this marathon obviously will. I thank you in advance for your love and support. See you at the finish line.
