Since 2008 we have been documenting the lives of the Darnal family in Kathmandu and Ramechhap. Our feature film, Drawing the Tiger (2015) and its short sequel The Eldest Son (2017) tell the stories of this subsistence farming family's ongoing efforts to break the generational cycle of poverty and seek opportunity in a rapidly changing world.

We have also been paying for the educational expenses for two of the family's five school-age children, Purnima and Pawan, at a good school in Kathmandu.

We are excited to be partnering with Mitrata Nepal to facilitate and formalize this sponsorship. Mitrata is a unique in that they have a truly holistic approach to educating the kids. They know all the children in the program as individuals. They involve their families, do two home visits per a year, provide workshops on hygiene, birth control, extra tutoring when needed. They ask the kids what THEY want for their future.

Now we are thrilled to have Pawan and Purnima be part of Mitrata! But wait, there is more... Mitrata has also helped us place the two older sisters—Rashmita & Sarita in a social work training program. Which they LOVE and will have them working in well paying jobs within 2 years. We invite you to help us in this effort to help this special family.

We will keep you updated on their lives via our blog:
