DMRF Canada Staff update:

There are a few exciting changes happening at DMRF Canada!
We are happy to announce the promotion of Archana Castelino to the position of National Director, DMRF Canada. In this new role, Archana’s responsibilities include developing our long-term strategy and managing the day to day operations of the organization.
 
Stefanie Ince who has been Executive Director since 2015, will continue to support the organization as needed, while mentoring Archana in her new role.

Also, we are pleased to announce that we recently hired a part-time Marketing Coordinator: Jolie Tadros, thanks to a recent government grant supporting young Canadians in developing their skills. Our thanks to Employment and Social Development Canada 
 
DMRF Canada Announces Two-Year Dystonia Clinical and Research Fellowship

We are pleased to once again offer a two-year Clinical and Research Fellowship to support the training of exceptionally qualified physicians in preparation for their career in movement disorders with a focus on dystonia and a special competence in use of botulinum toxins.     
  
 
 
Dystonia Coalition Update 
 
 
For the first time, researchers have comprehensively defined the demographic and clinical characteristics of upper limb dystonia, a rare disorder that affects muscles in the arms, forearms, and hands. Powered by the Dystonia Coalition database, the Movement Disorders publication is the largest study of limb dystonia to date. The Dystonia Coalition is part of the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network, a National Institutes of Health-funded network designed to advance medical research on rare diseases.

Dystonia Awareness Month Successes 2020 
 
 
 
Throughout the month of September, we celebrated Dystonia Awareness Month. Thanks to your support, we were able to reach more people this year than ever before! Because of your support, our posts reached over 15 000 people online and helped to keep the community engaged throughout the month.
  
 
#GivingTuesday 
 
Save the Date- Giving Tuesday is December 1, 2020.
 
Join the international movement dedicated to giving back! This year, our goal is to raise $1,500 in one day! When you support DMRF Canada on Giving Tuesday 2020, you’ll also be paying it forward by investing in future programs to better serve the dystonia community. By raising $1,500, we will be able to start the new year off right with an expert-led webinar in January 2021 centered on how to better cope with stress and manage your mental health.
 
Giving Tuesday is not just about donating money, it can also be about raising awareness about dystonia online. If you want to join our Giving Tuesday movement and become one of our online ambassadors, please email info@dystoniacanada.org by November 24, 2020.
