Fort San Marcos Discovery is BIG news!
The Beaufort Chamber of Commerce estimates that over 1.3 billion impressions were made around the globe with the discovery of Fort San Marcos by Dr. Chester DePratter and Dr. Victor Thompson. This fort was pre-fabricated in St. Augustine then erected in Santa Elena for the second phase of its occupation, starting in 1577. The Heritage Library has a Beaufort Branch in the Santa Elena History Center
Come research your own heritage! The Library is open to the public for Ancestry Research on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am-3pm at the Santa Elena History Center. Trained volunteers are available to assist with your research.
