June 29, 2020

Dear Friends,

If you have been paying attention to the news you should have heard by now that Governor Carney has delayed the start of Phase 3 re-opening.  Senior centers are included Phase 3, so unfortunately at this time we cannot guarantee we will still be able to re-open on July 6th.  We anticipate getting more information early this week and plan to share that with you as soon as we can.

Despite not having a concrete opening date we still want to share the following information with you. Take some time to watch the linked video and read everything thoroughly so you are prepared for when we do open.

Registration for activities will still open today.  You can register online or over the phone.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Stay Safe,

Carla
What You Need to Know About Re-Opening

What you need to know before visiting the Center
We will be requiring registration for all programs and activities.  You must have a current NSC Annual or Lifetime Membership to register for programs and activities.  Registration will open on Monday, June 29th at 9am.  Registration will be available here or by calling the Center at 302-737-2336.  NSC Staff will be available to take registrations over the phone at the following times:

Unfortunately, registrations cannot be accepted via voicemail or email.

The software we use to track memberships and registrations has been upgraded and will now allow you the option of safely storing your credit card information.  If you choose to store your information, this will allow for a more “touch free” experience to renew memberships and register for classes and will be especially useful when calling to register over the phone.

The Noontime meal will be available ONLY as a Grab & Go option.  Monday-Friday 11:45am – 12:45pm

NSC’s Transportation Program will resume at a later date.

Card & Game groups will not be allowed to meet at this time.  The Billiards Room will be available on reservation basis and will be limited to just 4 people at a time.

What you need to know when you get to the Center
The staff has tried to list the rooms where groups will be meeting in the Newsletter.  You can use this information to try and park close to your room.  Please be advised that the East & West entrances will remain closed at this time.

When you enter the Center, greeters will be conducting temperature checks and asking you to review the following questionnaire:
  • Do you have symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, severe sore throat, loss of taste or smell, or muscle aches?
  • Have you been in close contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19 infection?

If you answered YES to either of these questions, please DO NOT ENTER the Center.

If you receive a COVID-19 Diagnosis within 2 weeks of visiting the Center, you must contact NSC Staff to let them know: 302-737-2336 ext 115 or cgrygiel@newarkseniorcenter.com

If you register over the phone, the greeter will ask you to review and agree to the following Covid-19 waiver.  If you register online you will agree to the waiver at that time.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Within the 21 days immediately preceding execution of this form, I HAVE NOT: ·
  • Tested positive or presumptively positive with COVID-19 or been identified as a potential carrier of COVID-19 or similar communicable illness
  • Experienced any symptoms commonly associated with COVID-19
  • Been in direct contact with or the immediate vicinity of any person I know and/or now know to be carrying COVID-19

By checking this waiver, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending the Newark Senior Center.  I voluntarily agree to assume all of the risks and accept sole responsibility for any illness to myself.
What you need to know while you are at the Center
Masks are required throughout the Center unless a member is exercising or in the swimming pool.  Members are expected to bring their own masks.

Please respect social distancing while at the Center, keep 6ft apart as much as possible.

There will be no access to the administrative offices.  If you need to see a staff member, go to the Reception Desk and have them call the staff person for you.  Staff can meet with members in the lobby while practicing social distancing.

There will be disinfecting solution available in each room.  The first person to enter the room for any activity must start to sanitize table tops, chairs, light switches, door handles etc.  When possible, please leave the doors open to the rooms you are using, this will help with air flow.

Maximum Capacity will be posted outside of every room – these guidelines must be followed.

Staff is trying to streamline the room layouts, if your group needs equipment or layout, please ask the staff and do not move furniture or equipment between rooms.
