AFCM receives Festival and Events Award
On 25 November the Australian Festival of Chamber Music was announced as the Winner in the Festival and Events Category of Townsville Enterprise's Excellence in Tourism and Events Awards. This award was for the 2015 AFCM. The other finalists in the category were, SeaLink for the Magnetic Island Race Week and the McDonald's Townsville Running Festival. We thank our many supporters and sponsors who help us to put on the festival each year and the hard working artists and dedicated team who help make the festival the success it is.
If you missed the news, the 2017 Festival will be Piers Lane's last year as Artistic Director of the AFCM and UK pianist Kathryn Stott will take on the position in 2018. Kathryn Stott is recognised as one of Britain’s most versatile and imaginative musicians. She has performed in major concert houses worldwide for more than 35 years. A keen proponent of contemporary music, along with French and the Tango can be seen from the breadth of her discography. She has been the artistic vision behind several major festivals, chamber and concert series in the United Kingdom and holds several academic posts in leading conservatoires. Kathy will also be joining us as an artist in 2017 which we are very excited about! We look forward to welcoming her back.
Last month we said farewell to our colleague, Development Coordinator, Jane Cairns. Many of you would have spoken with Jane during membership renewal time and various festival events. Jane joined the staff of the festival after having been a volunteer. We are very pleased that it is not goodbye as Jane will join us a volunteer again for AFCM 2017. Jane’s friendly smile, tasty treats and dedicated support will be much missed. We wish you well in your new ventures Jane.
Membership is a valuable way to support the Festival, plus it provides you with wonderful benefits including discounted tickets and an exclusive member only booking period. Please do consider joining us in 2017. One year membership is just $95, two year membership and student membership are also available.
