Chamber Chat
Natalie Peluso, Soprano
Q. What are you most looking forward to about AFCM 2017? I feel so privileged as a singer - performing beautiful music with talented colleagues - and our program for the Festival is fantastic. But having the opportunity to do this with a tropical paradise just outside the door is my idea of heaven.
Q. For those who haven’t experienced Natalie Peluso what can they expect? When I made my debut as Musetta in La Boheme, Hilary Finch from the London Times wrote, "Her voice leaps out of her tiny frame like a champagne cork." I feel this continues to describe me perfectly - small, but packs a delicious punch!
Q. Is there a particular song that never fails to move you? I know it's quite overexposed now but it doesn't matter how many times I hear it, Barber's Adagio for Strings makes me cry every single time. Is that bad?
Q. What is your fondest musical memory? I have too many to choose from! But ever since I decided to become an opera singer, my dream was to sing in London, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. And when I made my debut there as Zerlina, in Don Giovanni, with Sir Charles Mackerras in the pit grinning up at me during our curtain call, I recall looking out at the audience and thinking how incredible it was that I had made it, barely 4 years after arriving in London. It was a moment I will never forget.
