2018 is almost upon us
Dear ,
Christmas is almost upon us, and whilst it heats up in Townsville, we're putting together the booking brochure and program for the launch on 6 March 2018. This year our Launch will take on a different format with the inclusion of a recital by Kathryn Stott following the release of the 2018 Festival program. Tickets for the launch in Townsville will be available to Members on 22 January and released to the public on 29 January. Tickets to the Sydney reception and recital by Kathryn Stott will also be available during this time.
Whilst on the topic of Memberships, make sure you take advantage of the renewal period which ends on 31 December 2017, after this time all memberships will incur an additional $10 joining fee. The first 28 members who joined on 1 November will soon be receiving their free magazine thanks to Limelight, featuring an article on our Artistic Director - Kathryn Stott.
Festival Tickets go on sale to members at 9am, Wednesday 7 March for an exclusive 3 week Member Priority Booking Period. You must be a current 2018 Member to buy any tickets during this time, including Platinum, Gold & Silver passes as well as Holiday and Festival Four packages. Tickets will be on sale to the General Public from 9am, Thursday 4 April. If you would like a copy of the 2018 Booking Brochure mailed to you but you have not registered your address with us, please email info@afcm.com.au.

We were thrilled to take out Best Festival and Event 2017 at the recent Excellence in Tourism & Events awards in November. The awards night was held at Peppers Resort on Magnetic Island and Justin, Jacqui and Rebecca were there to accept the award for AFCM.
Please note the Festival office will be closed for two weeks over Christmas and New Year from 5pm, Wednesday 20 December to 9am, Thursday 4 January 2018.
Warm regards for the festive season,
The AFCM Team.

Goodness - it’s almost the end of the year! As we all hurl towards Christmas, now is the time to put all the finishing touches to the festival program. Myself and the AFCM team are pulling out all the stops to have everything ready for printing early in the new year. It’s agonising not to be able to spill any serious beans before the launch on 6th March, but it’s exciting to keep looking at what’s on the musical menu and I, for one, will be thrilled when I can share my plans with you.
As many of you know, I’m rather partial to the cello, so for the festival I thought we’d have eight - yes 8 cellos! This is truly a magnificent sound and you’re going to love it. What else can I tell you? Well, one of our evening performances will be a lounge concert in a new venue, in three parts, and with a slightly different slant on our festival artists. Curious? I’ve also been doing a count of our premieres and unless I’ve missed anything, we have sixteen Australian premieres and seven world premieres. Plus, apart from our composer in residence, I’ve invited 3 musicians who all compose which is just thrilling.
I still have some work to do this month and will be giving performances of Shostakovich Concerto No.2 in nearby Liverpool and making my final teaching visit to Oslo, besides meeting some artists who will come to AFCM in 2019…..oops, I’m getting ahead!
Wishing you all a wonderful festive season and a very Happy Christmas!
Warmest regards,
