February E-newsletter
Ready for launch
Dear ,
We are less than 3 weeks away from unveiling this year’s Festival program and musicians. The annual brochure is at the printers and will be hitting your inbox / letterboxes in the week of the 5th of March.
We are extremely excited about Kathryn Stott’s upcoming recital – her first ever in Townsville. We are combining it with the Festival launch and guarantee it will be a magical evening. Taking place on Tuesday 6th March from 5.30pm, Kathryn will unveil the Festival program for 2018 which includes more international artists than ever before, a Cello Octet, a member of the Silk Road Ensemble, an international Winterschool Director and a fabulous new ‘lounge concert’. Canapes and wine will be served before her one hour recital begins at 6.30pm. This event is the perfect chance to mingle with fellow festival lovers and with Kathryn herself following the recital. Purchase your tickets now through Ticketshop.
Our office was saddened to hear the recent news that Limelight Magazine has shut its doors and won’t continue to be published unless an investor can be found to support them. As Australia’s premier classical music magazine, we like many of our supporters, look forward to keeping up to date on all the news and stories within the classical music community. Limelight were incredible supporters of our festival and also a means promote and send out our annual booking brochure. If you have any suggestions on how we can continue to reach new audiences or if you would like to get one sent to a friend please email us at
Volunteer applications open on Friday 16 February! We rely and appreciate all the hard work done by our amazing volunteers and look forward to seeing our loyal team (and hopefully some new faces!) this year. Drivers, office assistants, front of house, hospitality - no matter what your skill set, we have positions available.  For more information, please contact Jacqui or apply online.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Warm Regards,
The AFCM Team.

As many of you know, I regularly give coaching sessions while on the road giving concerts. In fact, I’m about to give recitals in the south of the UK and will be doing just that on this trip. It’s always wonderful to engage with young musicians, wherever they may be, and one of the many aspects of AFCM which I feel is very special is the Winterschool.
What an amazing opportunity it is for young musicians across the whole of Australia to work with many of our festival musicians, make new friends and delve further into the wonderful world of collaborative music making. It is work in progress, but I would also like to extend the course to young musicians in Asia so that we offer Australian musicians the opportunity to start networking out of their own country. This year I’ve invited a musician from Prague to direct the course and give regular coaching sessions. Together, we have been working on ways to take the experience a step further and now include a daily group session for all participants. With a huge variety of topics, I really feel this will add an extra dimension to what we already offer. With access to so much experience and knowledge, we hope that these talented young people will be inspired and fly!
Only a matter of weeks now until all is revealed - hope you’re feeling curious and excited!
Warmest regards,
An evening with Kathryn Stott
In Sydney
This light hearted evening, hosted by festival friend and well known broadcaster Damien Beaumont, is an incredible chance to get to know Artistic Director, Kathryn Stott, a little better. Damien will chat with Kathryn about the festival, her musical inspirations and history (illustrated from the piano) and other personal interests.
This will be followed by a reception with Kathryn where refreshments will be served.
Seats are strictly limited. Book your place today.
AFCM After Party
Returns this year
In the inaugural year, we saw the impromptu formation of the Magnetic Quartet - for a one time, never to be repeated, world premier. The fascinating talent and stamina of Craig Ogden, Martin Owen, Poul Hoxbro and Genevieve Lacey was displayed on the deck of Peppers Blue on Blue.
A sell out last year we are grateful to have Peppers Blue on Blue back on board and look forward to delighting you with 2018 festival artists.
Curious? All will be revealed at the launch in a couple of weeks!

Acknowledge - Anneke Silver
With a rigorous investigation of landscape over an extensive period of time, Anneke Silver has recently sought to reconcile her own European sensibilities with the traditional custodians of the land.  This artistic conversation lead to a quiet but powerful revelation of the ancient primacy of the landscape, which Silver explores within this body of work.
