Welcome to our
March e-newsletter which includes information about artist support, holiday
packages and a special new event on the Tuesday day off.
It’s been an
exciting time for us this month with Artistic Director Kathryn Stott in the
country to announce the 2019 Program and artist line-up. Kathryn spent ten days
on a whirlwind media tour of six cities doing various TV, radio and other media
interviews as well as meeting with AFCM donors and supporters before heading here to Townsville for the launch of the 2019
Festival, which she’s aptly themed ‘Origins’.
If you are yet to purchase tickets, please do so
soon as some concerts, particularly the two Sunday night Church concerts, are
almost at capacity. Call the TicketShop on 1800 44 99 77 or book online. We still have a
limited number of Gold and Gold Plus Subscriptions remaining if you are keen to
attend most concerts over the 10 days. Or if you can only make it for a short
time, then a three-night holiday package might be a great option. See below for

New Event Announced - Magnetic Island DiscsThis wonderful
alternative to Orpheus Island will have you heading across to Magnetic Island
for a pleasant two-course lunch with Artistic Director Kathryn Stott. Over
lunch Kathryn will share stories about her favourite pieces of music, why
they’re special to her and how they’ve influenced her musical career. She will
also then play each piece of music on disc...hence the title of the event!

Artist Support CampaignAt this time of year one of my favourite ways of becoming
better acquainted with our donors and our artists is matching one with the
other through our artist support campaign. Donations towards artist support
cover about 50% of the cost of bringing them to Townsville and it can open up a whole new world of music,
friendship and connections with great musicians from around the world. Generous
individuals like Jan and David Robinson support an artist each year with a tax-deductible
donation and since their first Festival in 2007 they have not only made good
friends, they have developed an unexpected expertise in instruments like the
sheng and saxophone. This year they are supporting Amy Dickson for the third
time, an artist they first met and supported at AFCM in 2011 and it will be yet
another happy reunion in Townsville.
Many of this year’s artists are already
generously supported but we still need to find a match for some of them and you’ll
find the list here.
donation for Australian based artists is $4,000 and for overseas based artists it’s
$7,500. We organize a get together at the Festival for you with your artist as
well as fellow supporters and their artists. It’s something that friends or
families can share too, we have a number of groups of up to four people who
share support. Why not get together with
a few others and become even closer to the music whilst supporting the AFCM at
the same time. I’m happy to help you round up your numbers while I’m busily
matchmaking! We are grateful for all
support and for how it contributes to the AFCM’s success.
