Are you ready to Celebrate?
Spring is in the air here in the tropics with the temperature sneaking back up to the high 20’s already, it really is rather glorious!
Thank you to everyone who completed our annual survey, we had a fantastic response, which will go a long way to helping our funding applications. Plus your feedback is also extremely valuable for identifying areas for improvement. We are busy analysing the data now so will share findings with you next month.
We have created a library of Festival images courtesy of Festival photographer Andrew Rankin. Please take a look at our Best of the 2019 Festival photo album and re-live some amazing moments.
We've already started planning the 2020 Festival - our 30th, can you believe it? And as unveiled last month, we have the internationally famed Sheku Kanneh-Mason making his Australian debut with us. Sheku performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding last year. We are super excited he is coming to Townsville next year. Read more about how you can secure early access tickets below.
Kind regards,
The AFCM Team.

A message from Kathryn Stott
Summer seems well and truly over here in the UK and as Autumn takes over and everyone starts to consider dark nights approaching, memories of AFCM 2019 are still super fresh, very much in my thoughts and still the topic of conversation amongst many artists who performed over those fantastic 10 days. I never have favourite moments because I see the festival as one big highlight! Looking back is a wonderful thing as being in the middle of the whole experience is always very full on but now I can relive all those fantastic performances in my head and remember much happy laughter and chatter amongst musicians and audience members alike. It’s nothing short of miraculous that everyone comes together in such great spirit and once again, what makes me incredibly happy are the new friendships which develop over those 10 days - that goes for all of us on both sides of the stage! I hope you will continue to carry many super duper happy memories of AFCM19 and for all those coming back next year, we can’t see you soon enough. For all of you who have supported artists let me please thank you right now. This festival simply does not survive without your help and so for enabling all these incredible musicians to make such outstanding music - big hugs from me!

Well, that was quite an AFCM!
Kathy’s programming and her truly excellent artists proved again just how their infectious collaborations and inspiring music-making bring such a joy. Buoyed by your support they bring delight to so many, not only to the audiences in Townsville but way beyond that time and place via the ABC and BBC Broadcasts. In true AFCM style there were memorable performances, newly discovered works and unexpected insights into the lives of our artists at Concert Conversations. A perfect AFCM in other words. We hope it brings back good memories and reminds you of those idyllic days listening to chamber music in the tropics or piques your curiosity if you weren’t there and are tempted to experience what the AFCM so uniquely achieves. Do join us for our 30th Anniversary AFCM next year from 31st July to 8th August, there’s lots to celebrate and a great list of artists!
If you are interested in supporting the 30th Anniversary AFCM do let me know and I’ll make sure we find the best fit for you.

The Honourable Jane Mathews AO
The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) joins the many arts organisations around Australia mourning the death of the Honourable Jane Mathews AO. Jane was a regular Festival attendee, enjoying the convivial company of fellow music lovers and the many artists she knew or came to know. A loyal supporter she was a generous donor and gave annually, supporting the Australian artists she already knew as well as being a founding donor to the AFCM’s Future Fund. Her presence and support were much appreciated, she will be missed not only in Townsville but in many foyers and events around Australia and beyond. We are grateful for her kind-hearted appreciation and extend our sympathies to her family and friends.
