October E-newsletter
Friends First
Welcome to our October newsletter. There has been a wealth of activity here at AFCM Headquarters, in addition to some much welcomed annual leave for the team, we completed the annual audience survey, opened (and closed) applications for the Theodore Kuchar Scholarship, announced some artists performing at AFCM 2020 and drew our first AFCM Friends winner for the Sunset Cruise with artists at next year’s Festival. Read more about all of these things below.
Thank you to everyone who completed the Festival Survey. The information is imperative for funding as well as helping us identify areas for improvement. Some of the key findings include:
- 95% of you were satisfied with your Festival experience
- 96% would recommend the Festival to others
- 93% of you plan to return in the future
- 80% felt the Festival provided good value for money.
The two things you loved most were, not surprisingly, the music and the artists themselves, particularly the high standard of the musicians and the variety in the program. Concert Conversations also rated highly as did the tropical location and atmosphere. The two frequently mentioned areas for improvement were the food at the Civic Theatre and the church venue. Thank you again for your valued feedback and know we will address all of these areas to ensure a fabulous experience in 2020.
Congratulations to Susan Gasson who was the lucky winner of our $500 cash prize for completing the survey. This year was Susan's first Festival experience and we are looking forward to welcoming her back in 2020.
For the first time ever, at the close of this year’s Festival, we released the names of some of the international artists joining our 30th Anniversary Celebrations in 2020. They include famed British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, British soprano Carolyn Sampson, Austrian horn player Radovan Vlatković and the BBC’s Petroc Trelawny. Now in another first, we are not only previewing the full program to AFCM Friends on December 2nd, we are releasing subscriptions and individual tickets at that time. Sign up here to become a Festival Friend and reap the benefits!
Warm regards,
The AFCM Team.

Winner of the Magical Festival Experience!
We are delighted to announce the first winner of from our earlybird AFCM Friend Competition is Mark Johnson.   Mark has been attending the Festival for the past four years and has enjoyed it's development.
When asked about what keeps him coming back Mark replied "I discover new instruments being played by expert musicians, and delight in the skills shown in spontaneous moments. I can’t get this at any other Music Festival. That’s why I keep coming back."
He particularly appreciates these three things about the Australian Festival of Chamber Music
    • The morning Concert Conversations when we get to know each musician in relaxed style with Kathryn asking stimulating questions.
    • The challenging variety of music in the evening concerts including never before heard works.
    • The opportunity to attend Winterschool Master Classes and experience the improvement displayed that day and in the final Winterschool Concert - it’s a joy to see students gaining confidence and taking risks.
Congratulations Mark!
Stay tuned - next month as we announce the second winner of our Friends competition!.
