December E-newsletter
Happy Holidays!
Wow, what a year 2019 was, such an incredible Festival with so many talented artists from across Australia and around the globe and some truly memorable performances.
As we look ahead to our 30th Anniversary we are truly grateful for your support throughout the year and would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families and friends peace and joy this holiday season.
We will close the Festival office for two weeks, Friday 20th December will be our last day before the Christmas break and we re-open on Monday 6th January.
We look forward to a New Year with you all and a fabulous AFCM 2020.
Kind regards,
The AFCM Team.

Look who's coming in 2020
Artists joining our carnival
We are very excited about the artist line-up for 2020. We’ve already mentioned a few names to you including the UK’s Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Carolyn Sampson and Petroc Trelawny, along with Austria’s Radovan Vlatković and Australians Peter Coleman-Wright and Diana Doherty.
Well, we can also announce more of the superb talent that will be performing for us next year. They include American violinist Tai Murray and English composer Paul Rissmann, plus we are thrilled to welcome back Jessica Duchen who has written a very special Beethoven program.
There’s also some Aussie legends including William Barton on didgeridoo, accordionist James Crabb and soprano Deborah Cheetham.
But wait there’s more - three quartets will make their way to Townsville including the super talented Tinalley String Quartet, the sassy Nexas Quartet and of course our quartet in residence the Goldner String Quartet.
We’re going to save the rest for launch time – but rest assured there’s so much stardom coming to celebrate our 30th anniversary it’s not funny!
Of course, if you’re an AFCM Friend, you can already see the full line-up and the full Festival program. But shhhh….that’s for Friends eyes only!
Where are they now?
We catch up with some past AFCM artists
Lotte Betts Dean - It’s been quite nonstop since our blissful time in Townsville! Since getting back to London in August, I’ve been up and down the UK performing recitals in Oxford, Aberystwyth, Dartington (Devon) and of course a few in London, as well as concerts in Alkmaar (Holland), along the Rhône River in France, and at the British Embassy in Rome! Coming up I have concerts in Derbyshire, Berkshire, Suffolk and a few more in London, before a much-needed Christmas break in Vienna. I’m already so looking forward to my next Australian trip in April-May 2020.

Charles Owen - Since returning from AFCM (and an amazing two-week holiday in North Queensland!) I’ve been flat out with many different concerts and projects. Highlights have included performances at this year’s London Piano Festival which I co-curate with fellow pianist and AFCM alumna Katya Apekisheva.  I’ve also enjoyed playing a huge range of French repertoire at cellist Guy Johnston’s Hatfield House Chamber Music festival which takes place in one of the UK’s most majestic stately homes. The musicians perform under the gaze of famous Kings and Queens including Elizabeth the First and Mary Queen of Scots. Masterclasses in Manchester & Krakow, chamber and solo concerts for BBC Radio 3 at the Belfast International Arts Festival and at the Oxford Lieder Festival have added to the mix of repertoire keeping me on my musical toes!
