Leading sacred, sustainable & strategic Muslim philanthropy for today & future generations.

How a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Helps
Unsure of where to donate this year but want to receive a tax deduction? Setup a DAF. It's better than Uncle Sam taking your hard earned money! A DAF is a giving vehicle that provides you with immediate tax ‚Ä®benefits & allows you to support your charities of choice through grant recommendations on your own timetable. You get to invest the balance, receive immediate tax benefits, and distribute to multiple nonprofits while receiving one tax receipt. Watch this video to learn more.

Thirty-one families we work with across the U.S. are giving more than $95,000 this month to their favorite nonprofits which brings our total to over $650,000 disbursed since July 2017. Join us to give through a Muslim community foundation, showcasing our strength and generosity in philanthropy.

AMF Attends Giving Circle Incubator
In early November, twenty-two global nonprofit leaders gathered in NYC for the launch of Amplifier’s 5th Giving Circle Incubator. A giving circle is a form of philanthropy where groups of individuals donate their own money or time to a pooled fund, deciding together where to give these away to a nonprofit or community project. In doing so, the Giving Circle seeks to increase their awareness of and engagement in the issues covered by the charity. The Incubator focused on how to provide support and structure to groups of family or friends who want to start Giving Circles.
The Giving Circles that Incubator participants will build over the next six months will introduce hundreds of people at all financial levels to the power of collective giving inspired by common values. From 2007-2017, Giving Circles in the United States tripled in number, proving to be a fun, effective and meaningful way for like-minded individuals to engage in philanthropy.
AMF Co-Founder Teaching with Indiana University
Muhi Khwaja will be joining as an instructor at The Fund Raising School at Indiana University's Lilly School of Philanthropy in partnership with the Center on Muslim Philanthropy (CMP). CMP's goal is to help 500 nonprofits in the next five years to certify 250 nonprofit professionals. Muhi received his Certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) in 2017 from Indiana University. Earlier this month, Muhi visited Minneapolis, MN, for a course on Developing Annual Sustainability and will be teaching in Tampa, FL on January 26-27.
The course focuses on how successful fundraising is an ongoing process. As organizations continue to identify new donors, they also need to maintain good relations with current donors and encourage them to repeat and increase their giving. This course will allow nonprofit leaders to learn and strengthen the fundraising skills that provide sustainability; including mail, online giving, major gifts and special events.

End of Year Campaign
With a goal to raise $10,000 by the end of the year, we are sitting pretty at $2,182. A generous donor has offered a match of $5,000 if we can close the small gap of $2,818. Help us make a difference and donate on our website or LaunchGood campaign!
Fund our strategic initiatives by contributing to our Endowment so we can make a sustainable difference for generations to come.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Erin O'Connor & Ebrahim Varachia

As a social entrepreneur and a clinical social worker, the desire to empower sustainable change lies at our core. Whether at home in the Motor City or traveling abroad, we’ve been inspired by the endless opportunities and initiatives that aim to positively impact individuals and communities. Our recent pilgrimage to the sacred cities during Umrah allowed us to reflect on the beauty of human diversity, the essence of Islamic spirituality and scholarship, the richness of culture and architecture, and the many political and socioeconomic factors that drive human behavior and can serve to support or dismantle systems of justice. Arrivals at the House of God and the City of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were in fact a return home, illuminating the values and causes that are most important to us.
We’re passionate about supporting mental health and wellness, uplifting diverse and disenfranchised populations, and building toward the future for a more vibrant and unified community. The American Muslim Fund streamlines the giving process, providing flexibility and efficiency as we strive to make a difference, interweaving our own thread into the Muslim American fabric.
Send us a Organization Highlight/Donor Spotlight to be featured!
With gratitude,
