We wanted to share some good news -- the 'Fondation Cancer' of Luxembourg just made a donation to the AURORA programme of 1.266.155 € !
In support of AURORA, Dr. Carlo Bock, president of the ‘Fondation Cancer’ of Luxembourg and Martine Neyen, director, presented a check in the amount of 1.266.155 € to Professor Martine Piccart and Serge Schmitz of BIG against breast cancer, on July 3, 2014.
AURORA is a research programme that was launched this year by BIG. It is focused on women suffering from metastatic breast cancer, which occurs in one of every three patients. It aims to identify the genetic aberrations (mutations or amplifications) that cause breast cancer to metastasise.
The programme seeks to discover biomarkers that will enable researchers to better understand why some patients react particularly well, while others respond poorly to the same treatment. On the basis of identified genetic aberrations, some patients in the programme will be invited to join existing clinical trials, giving them access to a new treatment to which they may respond better, and that could prolong their life expectancy.
A BIG thank you to the 'Fondation Cancer' of Luxembourg for their generous support!
