Join Us In Welcoming The New Year!
The staff and volunteers at BCB would like to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
In 2014, BCB was able to serve more than 450 persons affected by vision loss! Our 2015 goal for our programs is to empower more than 600 Kentuckians directly affected by vision loss through peer support, advocacy, education and training.  Another goal in 2015 is to reach more than 1,500 Kentuckians, educating them on the rights, needs and abilities of persons with low to no vision, and informing them of services available.
We feel we had a very successful year in 2014, with the number of Kentuckians served increasing by more than 28%! We would like to thank you, our members, donors, and friends who provided the support to make this happen. We hope we can continue to count on your help to reach our goals in 2015!
Office Closing Policy
We wanted to remind members and friends about our office closing policy. When the office is closed for holidays or inclement weather, our voicemail will be updated with the status of the office, so please call if you have any questions. We follow Fayette County School delays and closings in the winter. A BCB staff member will also alert Wheels if we are closed. In the case of bad weather or public holidays, it is best for you to call the office the morning of an event to be sure we are open before you venture out.
Topic of the Month
Beginning this month, BCB will select a Topic of the Month for discussions at our peer support group meetings. This is a suggested topic that attendees can discuss during social interactions. We are suggesting a conversation starter to help new members and visitors join in a discussion and for all to share ideas, thoughts, techniques, and ways they overcome challenges and difficulties. This is only a suggested topic; attendees are certainly welcome to discuss what they wish. We are recommending these topics for discussion during lunch at the Visually Impaired Peer Support Group meetings, and at our newly added, Community Outings each month.
For our first month of “suggested topics”, we have chosen the topic of Cooking.  We suggest you come with ideas to share on anything related to cooking with low to no vision. Any tips or advice you may have regarding safety, recipes, and the challenges of measuring or other issues…. Please come ready to discuss and share both challenges and triumphs!

We are currently taking applications for our Mentor Program for both mentors and mentees! If interested, contact Dr. Susan Ament at 859-259-1834 or email Mentor Trainings are being scheduled for March, so please let us know if you are interested.
