Show Us Some Love, Donate Today!
Today, December 1st, is your opportunity to make a difference in your community and support people who are blind or visually impaired in the Bluegrass area. Today is KY Gives Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event bringing nonprofits and Kentuckians together for a powerful day of action. Click here to view our video and learn more.
This is the perfect time to join BCB as a member, renew a membership, or just support the programs we offer. Our topic of the month for December is Community and Giving and we encourage you to take this opportunity to make a holiday donation in addition to paying your annual dues.
Membership is set at a minimum of $10 per person to make it affordable to all who wish to participate. We ask that members consider making a membership gift at a level that is significant and meaningful to them.
Membership is a way for our community to show support and appreciation for the work we do and to ensure we are able to continue empowering people with vision loss. General donations or membership dues of any amount are sincerely appreciated and are directly applied to providing services to people affected by vision loss in our community.

Holly Day Market with the Junior League of Lexington
On November 14th, the Junior League of Lexington presented more than $30,000 to worthy applicants at their traditional Holly Day Market. BCB is honored to have been selected from more than 60 worthy applicants for funding and volunteer hours provided by the Junior League. Funds and volunteers will assist BCB with our Health Initiative which will provide education, information, and health-related adapted equipment to persons with low to no vision, increasing safety, health, and independence for persons with vision loss.
It is through community and individual support that BCB is able to continue providing resources and services to persons with low to no vision, and to promote inclusion and independence for those we serve. BCB is proud and grateful for the support from the Junior League of Lexington. We appreciate their commitment to better our community through volunteerism and financial support for agencies such as ours.
The Junior League of Lexington is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Their purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Lexington, Kentucky, Inc. reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism.

Gifting Night with the Lexington Lions Club
BCB would like to extend a sincere and heart-felt thank you to the members of the Lexington Lions Club for their generosity and continued support. On Tuesday, November 24th, representatives from BCB joined other charities being recognized by the Lexington Lions Club on their annual Gifting Night. The Lions Club works diligently throughout the year doing volunteer work and fundraising for numerous nonprofit organizations, but is best known for their tireless efforts of planning, organizing, and running the Bluegrass Fair. The Lions Club chooses to invest these funds into the services of local nonprofit agencies working hard to better our community. BCB is grateful for the generosity of the Lexington Lions Club and values their partnership.

The Kentucky Council of the Blind State Convention was held at the Ramada North in Louisville on November 13th and 14th. BCB member and past Executive Director, Paula Wiese, was presented the William A. Routh award by Deanna Scoggins during the banquet proceedings Saturday evening for her outstanding volunteer service at the national and state level on behalf of blind and vision impaired people. A well-deserved award for a truly dedicated individual. Congratulations, Paula!

Calling All BCB Mentors and Potential Mentors!
The next training session for BCB Mentors is on December 10, 2015 from 9:30am until noon and will be held at the BCB office. This is an exciting opportunity to give back and pass on to others new to sight loss some of the skills you have learned dealing with your own visual impairment.
Those new to the BCB Mentor Program and wishing to become Mentors will need to come for the entire training starting at 9:30am. Current BCB Mentors will need to be there only from 10:30 to noon. The second half of the training will focus on relationship skills training and discussion. This will provide a basic overview for the new mentors and also serve as a refresher for the current mentors.
The training is open to anyone wanting to learn more about mentoring and does not commit one to becoming a BCB Mentor. You will receive an overview of the BCB Mentoring Program, requirements, and expectations of becoming a BCB Mentor, and learn skills that will facilitate your mentoring relationships. Contact Dr. Susan Ament (, 859-259-1834) for more information and to sign up.
