Photograph from Gamble Garden: Landscape of Optimism
April 2017
Miss Gamble loved to share the bounty of her garden. She often left large containers of cut flowers on the Waverley Street sidewalk by her garden gate, welcoming neighbors to help themselves and enjoy.
In that spirit of sharing, Gamble Garden hosts its 32nd annual Spring Tour on April 28th and 29th. The tour is a special invitation for our community to experience the garden at a peak blooming time of the year. As part of this event, Gamble presents five notable private gardens, where generous homeowners open their gardens to the public for two days of visiting.
Over 2,000 guests attend Spring Tour, Gamble's major fundraising event.  We hope you will purchase your Spring Tour tickets in advance and receive the member discount.
Thank You Dreyfus Sotheby's!

Formal Beauty in a Garden Inspired by Colonial Williamsburg
When they built their home in 1988, the homeowners wanted to create a garden like those they had visited and loved in Williamsburg, Virginia. Working with our local designer Bill Derringer, who had designed several gardens in Williamsburg, they planted a garden that was a peer to the formal beauty of historic colonial gardens in the Old South. Since then they have lovingly maintained and revised it as trees grew and shadows increased, always remaining true to its original spirit.

The Perfect Marriage of a Stately Victorian Home and a New Garden
When the owners bought this historic property in 2011, they were fulfilling a long-held dream to own and restore one of Professorville's stately Victorians. With the help of garden designer Janell Denler Hobart of Denler Hobart Gardens LLC, the dream included a serene garden for the children to play in and fir the adults to host large parties and intimate gatherings.

Plant Sale at Spring Tour
Article Image
The Spring Tour plant sale is always a hit with home gardeners and this year 15 varieties of tomatoes are featured!  Some favorites are 'Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red', 'Mortgage Lifter', and 'SunSugar'.  We will also offer herbs, succulent container gardens, and a selection of plants featured in the gardens on tour.
'Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red' was developed by Gary Ibsen to honor Mr. Eastwood's generosity to the Carmel-Monterey community. It is a wonderful, disease resistant tomato with intense, delicious tomato flavors, producing lots of 6-10 ounce, deep red, round fruits with a subtle point on its end.
