Dear ,

Glory to God in the highest, and
on earth peace, good will toward men.
 (Luke 2:14)

This is the song the angels sang at the birth of Jesus “the human herald of Christ, Truth,”¹  hailing peace on earth, good will toward men.  Good will is literally benevolence and that word is defined as “an act of kindness, the disposition to do good.” This sweet song is the introduction to a clearer and a more tender sense of God’s great love for us, the love that is described in John’s Gospel:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
(John 3:16)

This message — of God’s good will, God’s benevolence, God’s great love — is echoed in our holiday celebrations with the tradition of gift giving, celebratory carols, church services and gatherings of family and friends.

At High Ridge House, our Board and staff have been praying to gain a better understanding of the nature and demonstration of this spiritual sense of God’s love, as expressed in benevolence, good will, and Christian healing.  There are times when our Leader so eloquently expresses the purpose of a high ambition that we best leave it to her:

Christian Scientists, their children and grandchildren to the latest generations, inevitably love one another with that love wherewith Christ loveth us; a love unselfish, unambitious, impartial, universal, — that loves only because it is Love. Moreover, they love their enemies, even those that hate them. This we all must do to be Christian Scientists in spirit and in truth. I long, and live, to see this love demonstrated. I am seeking and praying for it to inhabit my own heart and to be made manifest in my life. Who will unite with me in this pure purpose, and faithfully struggle till it be accomplished? Let this be our Christian endeavor society, which Christ organizes and blesses. (Pul. 21:1-13)

As we honor our Savior’s birth, we ask you to join us in Mary Baker Eddy’s “pure purpose” — to learn and live this message of love.

With love and best wishes for this holiday season from all of us at High Ridge House,

The High Ridge House Board of Trustees
