"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."
~ John 12:32
To what were men drawn? Was it not what Mary Baker Eddy refers to as "...the living, palpitating presence of Christ, Truth, which healed the sick."? (SH 351:14). And isn't this what Christian Science and its healing mission represents to humanity today?
High Ridge House and its sister Christian Science Nursing facilities are united in lifting up the presence of Christian Science healing in the communities they serve. In proportion as our practice fulfills our aspirations, these facilities stand as beacons of Christ healing.
For High Ridge House, the fulfillment of this vision as a beacon of Christ healing was the impetus for its establishment in 1944, after a man who was permanently healed of paralysis started a care home where Christian Scientists could be nursed. Its fulfillment continues as an unfoldment of a spiritual idea from God that will carry forth a standard of excellence and will be self-sustaining.
The goal of excellence at HRH isn’t about one person being better or doing better than another person. It means each and all of us striving to do better than we have done before, so that we continuously improve the quality of our service to our patients. We are praying with some of these metaphysical ideas and we would like to share them with you.
We are cherishing a standard of excellence which would involve:
- Excellence of thought -- Spiritual-mindedness
“We must form perfect models in thought, and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives.”
- Excellence of policies and procedures -- Maximum benefit to patients and staff
“Metaphysical or divine Science reveals the Principle and method of perfection...” (Hea 14:25-26)
“…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
- Excellence of implementation -- Aim at perfection; exceed expectations
“So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them.” (II Chron 24:13)
“Christian Science is not an exception to the general rule, that there is no excellence without labor in a direct line.”
We are thinking and praying about these ideas and applying them in our formal Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program (QAPI) -- a step-by-step, systems-based approach to continuous quality improvement. As we work together with a shared commitment to excellence, we will continue to design and implement measures that not only fulfill the human requirements, but also support healing by demonstrating Principle and Love. With your support and feedback, our collective demonstration of Christian Science will enable the Christ light to shine brightly.
While significant challenges continue, we are grateful for the loving and encouraging response we continue to receive from each of you who cherish these beacons of Christ healing, as we do.
With love and appreciation,
