New Main Street Team Member
We are happy to introduce Stacey Watson, our new Director of Membership and Volunteers, and welcome her to our Main Street community!
I am so excited to be joining the Main Street Connect team as Director of Membership and Volunteers. It's my mission to help you find your place in this dynamic, innovative community; I cannot wait to meet and know every single one of you.
My professional experience has focused on creating and strengthening communities. I have had the opportunity to work in some very fun and inspiring places! I started my career as the Assistant Director of Youth and Young Adult Programs at Washington Hebrew Congregation (WHC). I was proud to take the skills I learned at WHC and grow as an Assistant Camp Director at Capital Camps & Retreat Center, the camp I attended as a child and worked at as a counselor in my college years. I spent several years as the Director of Lifestyle & Leisure at Charles E. Smith Life Communities, creating innovative, award-winning programming for older adults in Assisted and Independent Living as well as Memory Care. Most recently, I worked as the Director of Engagement at Ohev Sholom - The National Synagogue, focusing on increasing and retaining membership and inspiring volunteers.
I was born and raised right here in Montgomery County. I currently live in Kensington with my husband, Andrew, our two gorgeous girls, Abigail (3.5 y/o) and Eliana (1.5 y/o) and our dog Lucy. Andrew and I met at Syracuse University and we still bleed Orange. We love going to SU sporting events and being involved with the alumni community. Aside from soaking up every day with the little ones, I absolutely love to cook. You'll also find me snuggling on the couch watching HGTV whenever I get the chance.
Looking back, it feels like everything has led me to be right here, right now. Community, connection and engagement are values I hold deep in my heart and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to put them into action with Main Street.
Coffee, Conversation & Connections
We had 50+ Main Street members gather at the home of Karen and Jim Huizinga on January 11 to enjoy coffee and good company. Many of the attendees came to meet potential roommates with whom they could apply to live at Main Street or elsewhere. ArtStream staff facilitated engaging activities to help potential roommates get to know one another. Many thanks to the Huizingas for their warm hospitality and to ArtStream for helping build connections!

Sunflower Bakery Training Center
Over 20 Main Street members attended an open house at the new Sunflower Bakery Training Center on January 26. Our young adults baked chocolate chip cookies and hamantaschen and decorated cupcakes! All were very impressed with the new facility and employment training programs offered by Sunflower.
CPR Training Party
A very engaged group of about 16 members and staff participated in a CPR Party at the Bender JCC in Rockville on February 4. Following an introduction to the why and how of CPR, we were able to try out the technique on several types of dummies. A demonstration on AED devices and a follow-up question session brought the evening to a close. Awareness saves lives! Thank you to Laura Metro from CPR Party and Brooke from The Red Cross for educating our community!

Main Street's Collaborative
Lunch with Kennedy Krieger Institute
n January 16, Main Street and CORE Foundations at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) held a networking lunch to introduce local employers to our organizations and to highlight the value of hiring people with disabilities. Stacey Herman, Director of Post-Secondary Services at KKI, discussed their Neurodiversity at Work initiatives including services they provide to support both job seekers and employers. Thanks to the 30+ professionals who joined us!
We are thrilled that KKI will be using Main Street's second floor as a hub for their Core Foundations Program, assisting individuals with employment and development of core skills needed for a successful adult life.
We look forward to future collaborations with KKI and all the professionals who joined us!

Planning is already underway for Art Love, a fundraising event to be held September 24th in our new Main Street building!
This unforgettable event will support three amazing causes - Main Street, JFGH and VisArts - and will be the first inclusive art competition of its kind! Similar to a live, fast-paced cooking event, artists will have a short period of time to paint a masterpiece. Onlookers can watch, find inspiration in the process and, of course, bid on art to take home!
We're looking for Art Love Champions! A champion loves art, culture, fun and a great cause. You'll need to commit to attend 2-3 meetings, work to help organize and run the event, solicit sponsors, spread the word about event and include a friend who is new to Main Street, JFGH or VisArts. If you like to meet people, work with others and have fun while making the world a more inclusive place - join us! ADAPT Leadership Awards
Jillian and Scott Copeland will receive the Hausman Humanitarian Award at this year's ADAPT Leadership Gala in New York City on March 12. ADAPT is a leading nonprofit in New York providing direct services and support to children and adults with disabilities and their families. The leadership gala is co-chaired by Al Roker and Deborah Roberts and will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street. If you would like to attend, please let us know and register for the event here
VisArts 2020 Transformer Award
Jillian will be awarded the 2020 Transformer Award at the VisArts in Bloom Gala on Saturday, March 28. The evening will be a casual, fun-filled night of cocktails, cuisine and painting! Find more information and purchase tickets to attend here
Sarbanes Community Award
Main Street will be honored with the Paul Sarbanes Community Award at the Affordable Housing Summit on May 15 in North Bethesda. More information on the summit can be found here.

Ivymount 8th Annual Special Needs Resource Fair

JSSA's Pre-Employment Program
In addition to working with job seekers, JSSA offers transition services for students with disabilities
(ages 15-22) to help them prepare for success after high school or college. These services include post-secondary program counseling, career assessments, workplace readiness training and work-based learning opportunities such as internships. Programs can potentially be funded by DORS or can be paid for privately. Students will be screened for eligibility. For information, please email email@example.com
