Employment Internship Success
Kenny's Story
Kenny recently completed an internship with DTZ at CUNA Mutual Group through a new TLC program. After 6 weeks as an intern with support from our staff, Kenny was hired as a part time janitorial employee. Now he works 5 days a week and is gaining more independence.
About the position Kenny shared, “I have to thank TLC staff for this because they’re the ones that helped me get out there.” This opportunity was possible because community members like you care about giving Kenny, and all of our clients, the chance to develop and use their gifts.
Serving 50 vocational clients annually, our goal is to give each person the opportunity to participate actively in community employment. With funds donated through local agencies and individuals like you, we’re seeing results. In the last 3 years you’ve helped 8 of our clients secure jobs in the community. You are making stories like Kenny’s a reality. To our supporters Kenny says, “Thank you, I appreciate it and will never forget it.”
Congratulations on your new position Kenny!  Watch a video of Kenny’s full story here
Mayor Infelt Encourages Giving
#GivingTuesday in Waverly
Thanks to your donations, our end of the year campaign, brought in $2,295.00 to support our programs. But that wasn't the only exciting part of #GivingTuesday.
Mayor Infelt signed a proclamation on December 1 declaring the Tuesday after Thanksgiving as #GivingTuesday in Waverly. This support from our local government is so appreciated. We see the accomplishments our clients make everyday, and we’re thrilled others, like Mayor Infelt, see the importance of encouraging people to give to local nonprofits.
Thank you to everyone who supported our clients by donating this year: Dr. John and Edna Brunkhorst, Steve and Micki Denner, Dani Goodwin through the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, KC Auto Body, Frank Knealy, Mike Litterer,  Lori Mennenga, Margaret Phelps, Ramker Mini Storage, Scott Ramker, Dean and Suzanne Shoars, Taiber Family Fund of Infaith Community Foundation, Jean Waschkat, Clark and Julie Wilharm, Lester Zelle, and anonymous donors. YOU MAKE OUR MISSION POSSIBLE!
Maxine was our featured client throughout our #GivingTuesday Fundraising campaign. Hear Maxine's story by watching the video to the right.

Clark began his career at TLC as a Service Coordinator in 1991. After thirteen years of dedication to the agency he became the Executive Director, and his passion and many strengths have helped develop TLC into what it is today. His experience in living with and loving a family member with mental illness, has given Clark a heart for our clients that is an important characteristic for the Executive Director.
Now, overseeing all aspects of the agency Clark is also active with TLC’s newest position dealing with Development and Community Relations. With some upcoming changes in funding, Clark shares how  support from the community impacts the mission of TLC.
“The community clearly believes in our mission because they’ve supported us from the beginning. As the system moves more and more to managed care, it will be even more critical for agencies like ours to receive community support.”
Thank you Clark for your longstanding support and commitment to TLC!
