Santa Rosa JC Scholarships Awards
2014 AwardsArticle Image
Every year, UCP of the North Bay awards $500 scholarships to two students at the Santa Rosa JC.  This year the scholarships were awarded to Debra Thomas and Angel Becerra.  Both students were acknowledged at the Disability Resources Department Honors Reception on Thursday, April 24, 2014.  These students are well deserving of their scholarships.  We feel confident that they will continue to make contributions to better the lives of others, both through their individual talents and as inspirational models who are thriving with a disability.
Share Bravely
Cycle Fundraiser Supporting "Cycle without Limits" Bike Camp
Article Image Share Bravely, a grass roots ministry in Santa Rosa, hosted a bike ride through the wine country and a homemade lunch at Martorana Family Winery on May 4, 2014 to support the "Cycle Without Limits" Bike/Swim Camp.
Sarah Ponsford, one of the board members of Share Bravely, brought the idea to this local organization after her daughter, Ella, participated in the June 2013 "Cycle Without Limits" Bike Camp.  Sarah shared about her daughter's experience and what a profound impact it made on her whole family.
The event raised $1,275 that will go toward scholarships for the "Cycle Without Limits" Bike/Swim Camp that will be held June 16-20, 2014 at Sonoma State University.
Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful women of Share Bravely who made this possible: (from left) Shannon Sullivan, Katie Donaghy, Grace Miranda, Biana Broos, Sarah Ponsford, Mary Donaghy, and Linda Miranda (not pictured).  And a special thank you to our "Cycle Without Limits" Bike Camper, Ella Ponsford, shown above riding at Bike Camp.

WineBev "First"
"First Board Member"
In December 2013, Rick Cederberg, WineBev employee with disabilities, was approached by Bob Phillips, Executive Director of Area Board 4, asking Rick if he would like to apply to become an Area Board 4 Board Member.  Rick was thrilled and honored to be considered for the board.  Bob met with Rick and discussed what types of support he would need to serve on the board and explained what would be expected of him.

Assistant Coordinator Jenny Huff helped Rick apply for the position and he eagerly awaited a response.  Rick is seen in the photo mailing his application.  Rick was so touched by the thought of becoming a part of this very important organization that it brought him to tears. In January, Rick received confirmation of his appointment to the board and he has attended three meetings so far with help of a facilitator.  His sense of pride and integrity have soared since his involvement with the Area Board 4.
Rick is also the current President of People First of WineBev and is a great advocate for himself and his fellow employees. His excellent leadership has strengthened his self-confidence and he is a role model for all at WineBev.
