'Minute to Win It' Family Night
´╗┐Where everyone is a winner!

On November 13th, children from our school age programs and their family members participated in challenging games and activities based on the popular television show 'Minute to Win It'.
 
It has become a collaborative tradition with Southern CT State University (SCSU) Leisure and Recreation Studies students as part of a hands-on community class project.
 
The annual event, which includes a delicious dinner, is free of charge to families of students enrolled in WHCH’s in-school, before and after- school childcare program. As part of a hands-on community class project, SCSU students organized and coordinated the evening under the direction of Deb Smith, a professor in SCSU’s Recreation and Leisure Studies Department
 
WH Police Officers Visit Day Program

In an effort to develop a connection between local police personnel and individuals with intellectual disabilities, West Haven Police officers and staff were invited to visit Community Connections, a program of the West Haven Community House.
 
“We were happy to have members of the police department see our program in action, and to show our appreciation for all that they do”, said Marie Watson, Director of Community Connections. “The goal was not only to bring awareness about our program, but also to give our clients the opportunity to begin to build a relationship with the officers.”

Families Enjoy the Art of Story Telling

West Haven Community House’s Head Start program hosted a Family Fun Night in collaboration with West Haven’s Family Resource Center, and East Shore Nurturing Families Network on November 2nd.
 
Families were treated to a Tellebration, an annual storytelling event celebrated world-wide to introduce adults and children to the pleasures of the art of oral storytelling. As a professional storyteller, Laconia (Lot) Therrio from The Connecticut Storytelling Center, wowed the audience with his stories celebrating families
