Rock & Stroll Largest Turnout
Our Rock & Stroll event was a big hit with more than 250 walkers, our largest turnout yet. It was a beautiful end-of-summer day with plenty of sunshine and a lot of fun!
Walking Warriors, a team from Community Connections, took the first place title, once again, with 88 walkers raising nearly $6,000. Let’s hear it for the Walking Warriors Team. Second place went to BOD Squad consisting of 30 Community House board members and their families raising $3,000.
The music festival, facilitated by John McCarthy of Rock House School of Music, and Johnny Ziada of Z’s Corner Café, started after the walk kick-off with 9 bands playing into the night under a full moon on the Savin Rock boardwalk.
We wish to thank everyone for supporting our event!

End of Summer Beach Bash
Members of Community Connections’ DSO program held their First Annual End of Summer Beach Bash last month.
The party took place outside at Anthony’s Ocean View's Paradise Garden complete with garden-style waterfalls, palm trees and cabana style seating. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to show off their etiquette skills for this fully catered event with some fun in the sun, dancing, beach games, and posing for photos around the garden and on the beach.

Alexion's Day of Service
As part of Alexion-Pharmaceuticals’ Global Day of Service, approximately 40 Alexion employees volunteered for the day at the Community House, which was organized by Jersey Cares.
Some employees assisted with general landscaping and cleanup of the Head Start playground and built a variety of outdoor activity stations including water tables for water play, sensory nature discovery boxes and planted flowers and vegetables.
Meanwhile, down the street at Community Connections, more staff worked in our Day Service program. They conducted a photo booth workshop, art workshop and also assembled garden kits for each person to take home.
The Community House wishes to thank the Alexion volunteers for spending the day with us. View photos from Facebook here.
Visit from WHPD
Article ImageAs part of Head Start Awareness Month, we invited a few members of the West Haven Police Department to visit one of our Head Start classrooms.
Officer Audrey Jefferson, Kim Simone and Sergeant Charlie Young sat with the students and went over how to be safe at home, in school and in the car.
