Party on the Green a Huge Success

Dance Team Delights The Crowd

The "We're Poppin' Dance Team", comprised of Community Connections clients and staff, danced up a storm to the delight of the crowd at the agency’s 75th Anniversary “Party on the Green.” The dance team danced through songs of the decades like ‘Thriller’ and ‘Rock Around the Clock’, closing with ‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’.
The team has been practicing since early 2016 and their hard work paid off with a wonderful performance before the West Haven community attending.

Head Start Students Graduate
Many Community House Head Start classes held specially themed graduation ceremonies. Ninety five preschoolers in all have been successfully prepared to enter Kindergarten through fun, educational activities that promote healthy physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
Children learn through play in a planned curriculum that includes literacy (language, pre-reading and pre-writing skills) art, music, science, and math, sensory and dramatic play.
Head Start is now accepting applications for the Fall enrollment. Pease click here for more information about qualifications and how to apply.
58 Kids Enrolled in Summer Program
Staff members, including six Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers and a site coordinator, along with a Presidential Fellow from University of New Haven lead activities for the school-age children who attend each day.
The Summer Program offers child care for elementary school children for 8 weeks during the summer school vacation -- providing 'peace of mind' to parents in need of child care, while offering children a great opportunity for fun, recreation and friendship.
They take field trips to places like Lighthouse Park, Sherwood Island, Hammonassett State Park as well as some local museums.
New Board Leadership

The West Haven Community House Board of Directors held its Annual Meeting & Dinner on Thursday, June 30, which was marked by the traditional "passing of the gavel" from outgoing Board President Stacie Phan to incoming President Ken Prisco. Stacie, who has served as president for the past three years, was effusive in her praise of fellow board members. Phan observed, and the assemblage agreed, that the agency has moved positively forward during her tenure, and that she was confident it would continue to do so under Prisco's presidency.
Among the Board leadership for the 2016-2017 fiscal year beginning July 1st, Bill Heffernan III moves up to First Vice President and Katie Heffernan-Farrell is now Second Vice President. Jay Brennan remains as Secretary, Gene Sullivan will continue for another year as Assistant Secretary, and, John F. Onofrio is remaining as Board Treasurer. Also, two new members of the Board were welcomed: Nancy Rossi and Brian McLaughlin. In addition, Peter O'Neill was welcomed back to the Board after a brief leave of absence.
Join our team of talented, friendly and professional staff. We have multiple open positions and will be holding a Hiring Event on Saturday, July 9th, 9am - 12pm. Please review open positions here and help spread the word.
