As we reach the close of the year, it is a natural inflection point to consider where we are and what we have accomplished, particularly as MHP celebrates 30 years of housing people, empowering families, and strengthening neighborhoods.
MHP achieved important milestones in 2019, including our first acquisition in the District of Columbia, Worthington Woods. We completed an extensive renovation of Parkview Manor Apartments in Hyattsville, enhancing the quality of life for residents of 53 affordable apartments and adding accessibility to some of the homes.
Our Community Life student enrichment programs served more than 350 young people. This includes Nancy, a young woman who has participated in MHP programs since she was a little girl. She visited the University of Maryland College Park as part of MHP's middle school program, Future Leaders of the World. The visit opened her eyes to more possibilities about her future. Now she aspires to attend college upon high school graduation. Learn more about Nancy:
Our programs are having a great impact in the lives of our residents. We are proud to have recently received important validation of our residential programs. The Certified Organization for Resident Engagement & Services (CORES) Certification recognizes organizations that have developed a robust commitment, capacity, and competency in providing resident services coordination in affordable rental homes. That could not happen without your support. Thank you for your commitment to our programs that provide stability, hope and aspirations for our residents.
In this time of reflection and celebration, we wish you and yours a joyous holiday season.
With gratitude,
Robert A. Goldman

Housing Action Plan Unveiled
The Purple Line Corridor Coalition (PLCC) is recommending a strategy for preserving the affordability of 17,000 homes along the Purple Line light rail corridor in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. MHP took a leadership role in developing the action plan working with stakeholders and community partners. The Coalition's Housing Action Plan offers 12 recommendations to build on existing policies and programs aimed at ensuring individuals and families of all income levels benefit from the 16-mile Purple Line upon its completion.
MHP President Robert Goldman said, "The time to act is now." Learn more here.
Students Put on Holiday Play
To celebrate the holiday season, students in MHP's Great Achievers Toward Outstanding Results (GATOR) Club at Arcola Elementary performed "Sara Finds the Holiday Spirit." This comes after the students received rave reviews from their end-of-summer play, "Cinderella." The students sang and danced to multiple holiday songs, sharing the message that the holiday spirit is in selfless giving. Thank you to all the parents who attended and the teachers and staff who worked with the students to provide them with performing arts opportunities.
S'mores & More in Long Branch!
MHP is committed to strengthening neighborhoods through community-building events. To celebrate the holiday season, friends and neighbors in the Long Branch neighborhood gathered for "S'mores & More" in partnership with Montgomery Parks. Thanks to all who took part, including County Councilmember Tom Hucker, and to all who donated food to benefit Manna Food Center. Learn more.
