Leading sacred, sustainable & strategic Muslim philanthropy for today & future generations.

January 2019
                        2018 Receipts
This time of year, you must be collecting tax receipts from all of the organizations you have supported in 2018. Thank you to all of our donors. We will be sending receipts in the mail for donations above $100 and via email for all gifts in the next two weeks.
One of the many benefits of having a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is that you get to consolidate your tax receipt. You get to claim the full amount given to your DAF for the year you make the contributions while keeping a balance of funds to determine how much and when to support your favorite charities. Another advantage is the ability to invest your charitable giving. And our favorite is donating with the identifier of support coming from the Muslim community. Watch this video to learn more.
More than thirty five families across the country have donated over $700,000 to our partner organizations. Join us to give through a Muslim community foundation, showcasing our strength and generosity in philanthropy.
Please visit our website to learn more about DAFs.
AMF at Sundance Festival
We are proud to be supporting Muslim voices at the Sundance Festival taking place at the end of the month. Founded by Robert Redford, Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization that actively advances the work of independent storytellers in film and theatre. 112 features have been announced and AMF is sponsoring Loyalty Stories by filmmaker David Washburn.
AMF in Tampa: Developing Annual Sustainability
Muhi Khwaja, AMF Co-Founder, will be teaching Developing Annual Sustainability with Indiana University's Center on Muslim Philanthropy in Tampa, FL on January 26-27.
The course focuses on how successful fundraising is an ongoing process. As organizations continue to identify new donors, they also need to maintain good relations with current donors and encourage them to repeat and increase their giving. This course will allow nonprofit leaders to learn and strengthen the fundraising skills that provide sustainability, including mail, online giving, major gifts and special events.

American Muslim Fund is committed to teaching best practices for fundraising. If you'd like to register to learn more about how your organization can implement the best practices of fundraising, please sign up here.

ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHT: Developments in Literacy
Developments in Literacy (DIL) educates and empowers underprivileged students, especially girls, by operating student-centered model schools and provides high-quality professional development to teachers and principals across Pakistan. DIL believes that no child in Pakistan, no matter how poor or underprivileged, should be denied access to quality education. All children should have equal opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute toward the socio-economic betterment of their communities.
DIL has 9 chapters all over the United States with over 130 all-volunteer chapter members and ambassadors around the country. AMF will be presenting at the DIL US Chapter Conference at the end of January to help them learn more about investing as a nonprofit, the benefits of donor advised funds, and planned giving opportunities.

Growing up in the Bay Area, I’ve been to my fair share of fundraisers for Muslim organizations… and I’ve also skipped my fair share of fundraisers. There are a ton of Muslim organizations and they all rightly need our donations but with even the best of intentions, it was sometimes difficult to support everyone responsibly.
I love that American Muslim Fund not only makes sure donations reach vetted non-profit organizations, but allows one to do so in a sustainable manner. It’s great to have the option of a donor advised fund to make a lasting impact on the community and God-willing, I sincerely hope to continue to make sure my donations go a longer way than they have before through the guidance of American Muslim Fund.
Send us a Organization Highlight/Donor Spotlight to be featured!
With gratitude,
