Happy Turkey Month!!

Let me start by saying “Thank You” to all those who have purchased tables/tickets for our Village Gala 2018!  For those that still would like to attend, there are a few more days to purchase tickets and/or tables.  This year, we are all about saying “Thank You” to the lady that had the courage to plan and create a safe place for our children/loved ones, Kim Brusatori.  Please contact Anne Marie Blacketer @ 281-358-6172 or email her at ablacketer@villagelac.org for more information.

Village News - September is typically a turnaround month for The Village because of sponsors and families making plans to attend our gala.  September 2018 has held true to the trend.  This was the first month in some time that we were able to turn a profit.  This was nice to see as we try to end the year on a positive note.

The Village received a grant from the Rotary Club of Humble.  This grant will be used to expand the supplies and equipment for our Learn program.  Thank you so much Rotary Club.

I wanted to remind everyone that The Village received a grant from the HCDE (Harris County Department of Education) to help fund our After School Care Program for anyone 16 to 21 (not yet graduated).  We are now accepting applications, so please help us spread the word to all families in our community.  What a great way to prepare our loved ones for the time after graduation.

As you get ready to prepare to shop this holiday season, do not forget about the Village Thrift store.  We will be running weekly specials and our own Black Friday sales event.  Hope to see you there.

Remember to continue to check in with us via Remind.com for updated needs and happenings.

See you at the Village Gala!

Friends and Villagers-

As we look to the final two months of 2018 (can you believe it!) we are not only planning a strong finish in Fundraising, but planning ahead for 2019!  Our newest team member, Ms. Cory Saffell has joined us from A & M to assist with volunteers and we are excited she is here as we ramp up for the holidays and beyond!

We have enjoyed amazing volunteers this past month who have helped with beautification projects at the Learning Center as well as Stoney Glen.  Many thanks to our NCL teams for their help with our Vocational Projects and YMSL for Game nights at Stoney Glen!

This year’s Gala – Celebrating Success – Honoring the Life Work of Kim Brusatori – is just a week away, and we have a nearly full house for the event at Hotel Zaza.  Thank you to all, for supporting the Gala, honoring Ms. Kim – and providing beautiful tributes for the Gala Tribute book.  It promises to be a fun and special evening we are all looking forward to.

We are working hard to Secure the Future of the Village – ensuring all those who need and want our services will be able to participate for many years to come.  Watch your mail for more information on this important campaign as we end our year.  We know everyone wants to make sure The Village is here for all!

See you at the Gala!

Stoney's Stories
By Jennifer Powell, Assistant Residential Manager

October at Stoney Glen was full of Spook-tacular events and birthday parties!

We started the month with a halling bingo party and an exciting Halloween dance!  The community center was pack full all sorts of favorite characters and celebrities!  Our clients had a blast dancing, visiting with everyone, and partaking in the lovely refreshments!

We celebrated Lindsey's and Gary's birthdays this month as well!  Everyone enjoyed getting to pick their own flavor of cake and celebrating with each other!

We ended the month with a scream of a good time at the house Halloween party!  Big thank you to Judy Justus for providing everything needed for a night of fun!

As always, I want to thank Pastor Mark Renn from First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood for having church volunteers who so generously donate their time every Tuesday. They have supper with us then have a Bible study led by Mrs. Dorene Breach. She has a way of making learning fun and the clients seem to thoroughly enjoy it. Stoney Glen is now full, residents are all happy, and life is good.

Adventures & Activities
By Christina Whaley, Vocational Coordinator

Its been a long time, so how about some awesome pictures of the activities we have had going on at the Village!

Last month, Aktion club had breakfast at McDonlads. It was a great time with lots of laughter and socializing. We had varsity week the first part of October all the classes made team jerseys, helmets, and a classroom cheer. We ended the week with a pep rally in the gym. The Bulldogs (Ms. Donna's class) won a pizza party!

This week we did wizard week. The Villagers made wands, team crests, and spells-it was great! The House of the Penguins were the winners of the pizza party (Ms. Regina's class). The Villagers have really loved theme week and our walls look amazing!
