 Boys Home Church Day

Boys Home would like to invite you and your congregation to attend our first ever church day at the Boys Home campus. April is such a beautiful time of year to visit the Boys Home campus! The day will include lunch with the students, a tour of campus, time to talk with students and staff, and a closing prayer in the chapel. We're looking forward to this opportunity to share our organization with the Virginia faith community and we would love to see you!

We hope to see you at Boys Home on Tuesday, April 30!

Special Valentines from St. John's Episcopal Church

We have been blessed by the St. Anne's Guild at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hampton on Valentine's Day for the last few years. They make sure every student has a Valentine! We know it must take hours to put together these goodie bags for Boys Home and we are so thankful for the commitment they have made to make a difference in the lives of these young men. The students love the candy, but they also love knowing that people are thinking of them on holidays. They always remember St. John's for giving them Valentines and are excited to receive them each year.

Thank you, St. John's, for thinking of Boys Home and making Valentine's Day special for our students!

A Note from Chaplain Anne Grizzle:
Following The Way of Love

 Chaplain Anne Grizzle

After hearing Bishop Michael Curry's call to Jesus' way of love, Boys Home chapel topics have been focusing on pursuing His way of love using the following: teach, learn, pray, worship, and rest. Scriptural examples are mixed with personal stories to help bring each practice to life.

Mondays after chapel, each cottage has the opportunity to participate in a discipleship group with Pastor Anne. Scriptures for the day are then read and discussed. The themes that the students have discussed so far are turn and learn.

Turn: Jesus' call of ordinary fisherman, tax collectors, and sinners were highlighted as students considered Jesus' call to them to turn to God. Students each wrote a word or drew a picture illustrating how they would describe their own turning to God.

Learn: As a part of learning, each of the boys have been challenged to read the gospel of Mark this semester. While they are encouraged to learn the discipline of personal Bible study, students meet by cottage weekly with Pastor Anne to discuss highlights and questions from their reading. They also use this time to pray for one another.

One highlight was when one of the Boys Home Ambassadors, Frank, preached from Psalm 1 in a chapel session that focused on learning. Frank related to the audience in fun and challenging ways, told stories from his own life like coming from Liberia and the recent loss of his grandmother. All of these examples were to illustrate the call to delight in the law of the Lord.

Quilt Raffle Underway!
Make a difference in the life of a young man.

Can you imagine this beautiful quilt in your home?

Executive Director Donnie Wheatley's sister, Phyllis Gibson, made and donated the quilt for the raffle. This quilt is a modified Around the World pattern. The quilt measures 90.5" x 99" and fits a queen-sized bed.

Your donation helps provide housing, education, and basic living expenses for young men whose lives have been impacted by poverty or family instability. Together, we can give each boy at Boys Home a chance at success!

Tickets are $5 for 1 ticket and $45 for 10 tickets. The drawing will take place on May 7. All proceeds go to Boys Home of Virginia. For tickets or information, please call (540) 965-7703 or send an email to curffer@boyshomeofva.org

Help us reach our goal of $5,000! Best of luck winning this wonderful quilt!

 How Can I Help?

If your congregation would like a visit from Boys Home, please contact Lauren at LHanna@boyshomeofva.org and we will work to set it up. We look forward to visiting as many parishes as possible to share the Boys Home story.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
