New Online Resource
The NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services is pleased to announce the launch of https://ComplexMHIDD-nc.org, a new website for parents, caregivers, community members, and primary care physician offices, and other professionals whom live with and care for people with both I/DD and mental health challenges. This website is a collection of information and resources designed to provide an overview and guidance on such topics as communication, trauma, behavioral health crisis, and medication.

Spring Sibshop Dates
March 6, April 3, and May 8, 2020

Stepping Stones Parenting Institute
Starting in February! One former participant said - “This class helped me in so many ways, but most of all it made me enjoy being a mom again!”

Parenting is hard work.  This Institute is an intensive small group with activities tailored to parenting children with special needs. Strategies for staying positive, helping your child learn, and managing difficult behaviors are just a few of the topics.  We will meet on 3 Saturdays (2/22, 3/7, and 3/21) at The Children’s Center and then for a graduation dinner in April. RSVPs are required.
 
Maximum number of participants for this group is 10. To learn more about this opportunity for Forsyth County families who have a child 5 years or younger with special needs, please contact Lakeisha at 336-703-4289 or LakeishaFSN@theCFEC.org. 2020 Annual Meeting With Guest Speaker Ann Turnbull

Auditorium of Wake Forest’s Biotech Place on Patterson Avenue.  Annual meeting from 6:00-7:00 PM with guest speaker from 7:00-8:00 PM.  Ann Turnbull is a researcher, professor, parent and advocate. She co-created the Beach Center on disability and has been recognized as one of 36 individuals who changed the course of history for people with disabilities in the 20th century.

I/DD Alert Registry of Unmet Needs
The Triad I/DD Advisory is launching a new state-wide initiative to address the Registry of Unmet Needs.  Thanks to a grant from the County Commissioners and Cardinal support, they are launching a website and full throttle effort to bring awareness and change to this tragic deficiency in disability funding and services.  Click HERE to find out more about this effort.
