GEN Children's Charity Golf Open
Supporting Banyan
Article ImageGEN Children's Charity has been hosting a charity golf outing every two years for over a decade. This year, Banyan is the charity partner for the event - a wonderful way to help celebrate our first 20 years!
Eric Moleski, President and Founder of GEN Children's Charity says: Despite the relative wealth of the Twin Cities area, the need is as great here as in any other city. I am passionate about improving the lives of children in our area. It is an investment that will produce returns in our society for decades to come. I want to share that passion with you and hope that you will support the efforts of GEN Children's Charity and our charity golf tournament.

Article ImageBanyan K-2nd graders had a great celebration on the 100th day of after school programming at Banyan this school year!
The party included making a crown with 100 jewels, stringing a necklace with 100 Fruit Loops, creating a canvas with 100 colorful dots, and much more.

Cooking Matters® Comes to Banyan
Through the University of Minnesota Extension
Article Image
The University of Minnesota Extension Cooking Matters® course empowers families with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make healthy, delicious and affordable meals.
Cooking Matters® is a six-week, cooking-based nutrition education program that empowers people to eat healthier and make the best use of their food resources.
The specialized curricula cover practical nutrition information, hands-on food preparation, and food budgeting and shopping. All participants receive recipes and other educational materials from the lessons, and adult participants take home a bag of groceries each week to practice what they've learned.
Thursday evenings are busy in the Banyan kitchen this spring!
Banyan Takes Over Roller Garden
Annual Winter Gathering Event
Article ImageThere is nothing quite like meeting your friends and neighbors at the roller rink. One night every March Banyan reserves the entire rink for Banyan youth, families, and staff. This year over 200 people came out to take a turn around the rink!
Gatherings create memories, friends, and connections. Many skaters are first-timers, and for others it's a distant memory that needs refreshing. Then, there are the fearless skaters - of all ages!
It is a time to catch up with neighbors we don't see as often in the winter, pause the busy schedules for laughter, and skate backwards!
ACT Prep Underway
Banyan Juniors are Hitting a New Book
Article ImagePreparing for and taking the ACT is one more step along the journey to college that Banyan takes with youth.
The ACT is an entrance exam used by many colleges and universities as part of the admissions process. This rite of passage will be taken by Banyan juniors this spring and again in the fall.
Banyan truly is transforming lives in the Phillips neighborhood and creating new pathways - as evidenced by the 25+ youth we currently have in college! And the dozen that have graduated from college!
Conversation Circles
Adult Programming Continues to Grow
Article ImageAs a part of our Community, Leadership, Education, and Connections focus with adults, 2018 saw the launch of conversation circles.
A couple times each month, adults come together to get to know each other better;  visit, share, and listen over a cup of tea/coffee; reach out for prayer; or enjoy the warmth of the fireplace.
We have a group of moms learning to crochet (see photo), and another group will playing volleyball in the gym. April will include Bingo and an evening to Dance Your Troubles Away!
Ready for Spring
Making the Most of Our Gym!
Article ImageThe first day of Spring brought more snow to Minneapolis. No worries, Banyan youth have access to a full size gymnasium every day after school, all year round!
While youth can't wait to play on our outside playground, we take full advantage of our indoor space.
The gym is staffed by a PE Specialist who implements a curriculum that features sportsmanship, physical fitness, teamwork, winning and losing, and lots of FUN!
We're grateful for the view of spring through the windows!
