Sharing the Love on Valentine's Day
Filled with the Valentine's Day spirit, Harold, George, Mike and David were among the dozens of members of The Arc visiting the Statehouse to "share the love" with our legislators. Having painted our Valentines with the message "Have a Noble Heart for The Arc," we personally met with Governor Holcomb, Speaker Bosma and six of our Central Indiana legislators during the fun-filled afternoon. The Senate and House mailrooms helped us in delivering the rest of our valentines.
As The Arc of Greater Indianapolis, we love this annual opportunity to thank our elected officials for keeping in mind the needs of people with disabilities as they carry out the work of our State.
Attention: She's Taking on the World
In the last four years, Nicole has grown from a shy teenager into a strong young woman who's ready to take on the world. At first, she would only communicate with Behavior Consultant Molly Lang through a written conversation in her notebook. Then as her confidence grew, the notebook was replaced by conversations initiated by Nicole, excited to share her thoughts and feelings.
To build her skills, she and Molly began volunteering together at Cats Haven, which specializes in long-term care for felines that are older or have special needs. She rounded out that experience by working in an elementary school cafeteria and TJ Maxx before she took the leap and joined the ROTC through her high school.
She says she feels most confident when she's wearing her ROTC uniform because it's a physical reminder of the challenges she has overcome in the last couple years. Ready to graduate in May, she's looking forward to enrolling in Noble's Project SEARCH at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital so she can further boost her resume of growing job skills, making her an incredible candidate for our community's workforce.
