Summer 2018
A Word from Kim

While we continue to serve families facing homelessness and individuals who are incarcerated, we also strive to be a good neighbor in the community within which we are located--College Hill.  Thanks to generous donors, we are working on beautifying a vacant lot adjacent to our property which included the installation of the sign pictured above.  It will serve as a gateway to one corner of College Hill, welcoming all who pass through.  Landscaping is planned for this lot in the near future thanks to a generous grant.

In the same way that we witness the transformation of families, we are also contributing to the transformation of the College Hill community.  We thank you for your ongoing partnership to make both types of transformation possible.

In Him,

Kim Schave

Transformational Housing

Our clients have achieved some great successes recently!

Pictured below is Rita who was able to purchase her own home.  Humanitri staff and volunteers from Christ Memorial Lutheran Church moved her into her new house and helped her to make it a home for her family.
  • A client started a new job at Amazon.
  • A client obtained a better-paying position that offered more hours.
  • An unemployed client was able to find
    a job.
 Jail Chaplaincy

Thirteen thousand inmates go through the St. Louis County Justice Center every year.  The Chaplain is the only non-staff person allowed into the housing units. Recently, a man in his fifties who had received pastoral care in the past requested help.  He loves Jesus, but he struggles with loving others who disrespect him and treat him unfairly in the jail. Our Chaplain assured him that Jesus only allows testing to help us depend on God alone. He then opened up to tell the Chaplain that he had been abused as a child which has caused him emotional pain in his life. With God’s help, he has forgiven the perpetrator. He then shared through many tears that his son had been abused by his babysitter. His son saw his father’s tears but did not know that his father had experienced the same abuse. We prayed that Jesus would heal his son as he was healing the father.

New Opportunity!  If you have a family member or loved one in jail or another correctional facility, an anonymous support group will be forming soon.  Pastor Stanley will offer his perspective from his work with inmates and will encourage the sharing of experiences, feelings, concerns and needs.  These one-hour sessions will offer comfort through the Word of God as well as from the common experiences of the group.  Please call Humanitri at (314) 772-7720 (extension 1006) if you are interested in attending.
