PEST FREE BANKS PENINSULA UPDATE

SEPTEMBER 2020

The Pest Free Banks Peninsula Partnership is delighted to have made significant progress in recent months securing substantial funding and appointing a Project Leader. While the Pest Free Banks Peninsula collaborative vision covers removal of pest animals over the entire 110,000 hectares of the peninsula by 2050, the new funding support of $5.1M over five years from Predator Free 2050 Ltd will be targeted to sister eradication programmes over 23,000 hectares of an Extended Wildside area in the south east of the peninsula as well as 5,500 hectares on Kaitōrete. These areas are rich in biodiversity, can be readily defended and scaled up as the project extends in the future. These programmes will be led by recently appointed Project Leader, Sarah Wilson (read more about Sarah below).

Celebrate with us….

Pest Free Banks Peninsula invites the Wildside, Akaroa, and surrounding communities to join us in celebrating Predator Free 2050 Ltd funding support for this area.

Drop in to the Akaroa Sports Pavilion any time between 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday 16 September for a drink and nibbles.

Learn about the funding available to support an eradication programme in the Extended Wildside area, and talk with us about your ideas for predator control to enhance biodiversity in this area.

A similar event will be held for the Kaitōrete community in October.
