The Parish Primaries
Well, not exactly. But it is nomination time here at Ss. Peter and Paul. Three years ago, the current Parish Pastoral Council was established, and its members have served with commitment and generosity ever since. But each summer, the members discern whether they will continue for the next year; two of them recently decided to step down. The Council would also like to add one or two additional members for the coming year, due to the work of updating the parish strategic plan.
Thus I invite members of the parish to NOMINATE candidates for the Council. Please include the nominee’s full name, and a brief sentence or two describing why you nominated the person, and the particular gifts you judge he/she would bring to the Council’s work. Email your nominations directly to me, pastor@ssppjesuit.org, by MONDAY, AUGUST 13. You may nominate one to five parish members (listed in order of your preference).
Per archdiocesan guidelines, the Council’s function is to provide consultation to the pastor regarding pastoral planning; it is “the primary visioning body of the parish, assisting the pastor in determining the overall mission of the parish.” The Council should represent the diversity of parishioner perspectives: young and old, new and long-time parishioners, men and women, etc. We meet monthly, Sept-June. Current members are Amy Amador, Rhoda Henderson-Fields, Rick Pasiak, Donna Ridella, and Boratha Tan.
Thank You!
I would like to express thanks, on behalf of the entire parish, to our outgoing Council members: Jennifer Dewey and Don Scheible. Don served as Secretary, taking notes at each meeting and producing superb, thoughtful Minutes – so extra thank-you’s for that extra labor! Jennifer has a new baby to care for (in addition to her full-time job), and Don will continue on our Facilities Team, offering his invaluable professional expertise.
We also say a giant THANKS! this week to Mary Catherine Costello, who was helping temporarily this summer with our young adult ministry, and now moves on to her new position as campus minister at U of D Jesuit High. To paraphrase the scripture (Eph 3:20), she accomplished far more than we could ask for or imagine in her short time with us! – beginning several new programs, and establishing a young adult board. More about that board in the future!
Social Justice
A follow-up exploratory meeting will occur on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 6:30PM. If you are interested in the future social justice efforts of the parish, please come!
