Enriching Lives... Enriching the Community
A Client's Story: Bert Ramker
How TLC impacts her independence
Recently, we dropped a client off for an appointment, and before she made it in the doors she was greeted by three different people. It seems everyone knows her, and if you’re from Waverly chances are you’re familiar with Bert Ramker too.
Bert moved to Waverly in 1951 and started Ramker Construction with her husband Bob. “Waverly has always supported us, and it’s a wonderful place to raise a family,” she said. After living here for many years she eventually decided it best to have someone else drive her when she needed to leave her home.
Her wonderful family members, church friends, and neighbors have all been instrumental in helping her complete her errands and attend her usual events, but she also relies on The Larrabee Center. “It has helped me a lot. My family and friends aren’t always available and it has relieved me knowing I can use Larrabee.”
She knows first-hand how important The Larrabee    Center’s services are for local residents and often uses TLC’s senior services to get rides to medical appointments, hair appointments, dental appointments and more. “The availability is what I appreciate most. They’ve treated me very well, are always helpful, and make sure I get in and out of my appointments safely.”
Bert first learned of TLC services through her son and now is sure to tell everyone who needs in-home or transportation assistance to give TLC a call. “There are still a lot of people who don’t know about The Larrabee Center. We have so much help available in Waverly, you just have to be aware of the services.”
Thank you Bert, for your cheerful personality and for spreading the word about TLC’s Senior Services. We are honored to serve community members like you who have impacted Waverly for many years!
Endowment in the Making
In December, TLC made an investment in the agency’s future with an endowment fund through the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. Over the next two years TLC must meet the minimum required investment of $10,000.00, and you can help us get there!
Each gift you make to our endowment fund ensures our mission continues impacting the lives of people with disabilities and the elderly forever. Your gift is permanent and will continue growing as it is invested on behalf of the agency. Each year, we will receive a portion of the investment earnings to supplement our revenue streams.
Not only does your gift benefit us but it also benefits YOU! By donating to our fund you become eligible for a 25% Endow Iowa Tax Credit, making the net cost of your gift much lower.
If you’re passionate about our mission and want more information about contributing to our endowment fund, give us a call today at 319-352-2234 or download an endowment flyer at
There are hundreds of people with disabilities and the elderly who need TLC’s services. Your gift will impact many lives, thank you!
A Busy Summer at Trinket & Togs

As Gentlemen of the Road passed through town, city wide garage sales pick up, and warm weather encourages people to be out in the community our thrift store has seen the impact!  It’s amazing what our store staff accomplishes and the number of donations they process every day.
Did you know about 65 people drop off donations each day? And, we send about 1,200 new items out into the store daily! With so many new items, it’s no wonder some people come to the store regularly. Our donors and shoppers make this all possible, thank you for supporting our mission!
Be sure to like our Facebook Page and keep up to date with all the promotions and events happening at Trinkets & Togs.
Thank you McElroy!
R.J. McElroy Trust recently granted The Larrabee Center funds to purchase new chairs and height adjustable tables for TLC’s multipurpose room. These new items will better accommodate people who use wheelchairs in our facility as well as replace old and worn products.
McElroy Trust is a highly esteemed funder in the Cedar Valley supporting numerous projects benefiting young people in our communities. Thank you R.J. McElroy Trust, your passion makes our communities better!

Staff Spotlight
Stephanie Brooks
As someone who works both directly with clients and with staff, Stephanie is in a unique position to understand TLC’s mission. We couldn’t accomplish our mission without the dedication of our staff and the  determination of our clients,” she commented. Stephanie knows it is equally important for the agency to work hard as it is for clients to pursue their goals.
Joining the TLC team back in 2006 as a support staff Stephanie has since moved into her current position of  SCL/Habilitation Program Manager. Stephanie primarily oversees TLC’s in home services for individuals with mental illness where she watches clients achieve their goals and gain more independence.
“Helping individuals become as independent as possible while remaining in their own home is what our mission means to me.” Your passion for your position and our agency is evident, thank you Stephanie!
