Help Banyan Meet Our Year End Goal
Will you support Banyan?
Article ImageBanyan has so much to celebrate this year - our largest cohort of high school graduates, groundbreaking on our new home, a record number of block clubs, the results of the Banyan Effect study - to name a few.

With an annual budget of $950,000 we rely on your support to achieve these results. The end of the year is a wonderful time to support Banyan with a financial gift to ensure our transformational work continues and positions us for growth in 2016.

We are thankful for your support and are very blessed.
College Visits
Banyan Hits the Road Over MEA
Article ImageThe MEA break is a wonderful time to visit college campuses. Classes are in full swing and the fall colors make every campus look like a postcard.

Banyan's College and Career Counselor took groups of high school juniors and seniors to visit campuses in October. They toured the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and Carleton College.

The ultimate goal is exposure to a variety of campuses to develop a college plan and build confidence in executing the plan.

We are grateful to all those that made our dream a reality - it is the belief of so many in the work of community development in our neighborhood and their financial support that make this possible. We are looking forward to moving in next summer!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Banyan is Thankful
Article Image
Gratitude speaks to the fact that we have received good gifts and recognize that the source of these gifts are outside of ourselves. Gratitude describes the feelings we have at Banyan.

Banyan has been the recipient of many gifts this year-  talents from our community members, youth that have applied themselves to their studies, staff that have given their passion to create a strong community, and supporters that have given generously through their financial gifts and volunteer time so together we can enhance the mission of Banyan.

We recognize that Banyan is dependent upon the generosity of others that believe in our mission as well as God’s blessing.  We are so grateful and celebrate all the amazing gifts that we have received.

Thank you for believing in Banyan and sharing your gifts!  We have grateful hearts!
Annual Banyan Dinner
A Celebration of Partnership
Article Image
On a recent Sunday evening, our Annual Dinner was held at Saint Mary's University (we are shameless in getting Banyan youth onto college campuses)! The evening had great energy as guests mingled with high school students and learned more about each other through a competitive game of Banyan Bingo!

After a wonderful meal, we heard several voices of Banyan. Growing Up Banyan, a high school senior reflected on her lifelong connection to Banyan; Banyan's impact on a family, from a parent of 4 high school graduates whom are now all college students, and one in high school; board member perspectives, staff insight, and a love song from Joani.

We appreciate our many supporters and partners that joined us to make the event a great success.  Congratulations to all the Bingo winners.
Vidku and Timberwolves Host
Banyan Middle Schoolers for Workplace Visits
Article ImageBanyan middle school youth continue their workplace visits in pursuit of career ideas and an understanding of the education required and the path to get there.

We spent time at Vidku, a start up technology company with a video-centric messaging app that inspires friends and groups to share whatever and unshare whenever. We heard the varied stories of several employees that merged their creative and technical skills to create a very successful new app.

We also revisited the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx practice facility now that it is complete. Last fall, Mortenson gave us an inside look at a work in progress. Peaking our interest in construction management and following the process from the architectural firms we've visited in the past. This was the next step, a finished building and a chance to meet the staff that make up the basketball franchise.
Apples and Pumpkins
A Banyan Family Tradition
Article ImageTwo buses, two vans, pickup trucks and several cars made up the annual caravan to the apple orchard.

Gatherings are just one example of how Banyan connects members of the neighborhood with each other, creating bonds that encourage communication and belonging.

In addition to the bonds and connections - memories are made, for families, neighbors, and youth.

Favorite memories include: picking apples, selecting a pumpkin, feeding the animals, playing on the playground, riding the haywagon to the orchard, facepainting, and sharing a meal.
Under Construction
Art Workshop Theme
Article Image
Each fall Banyan youth team up with artist Anne Brink to create a community banner and their own canvas. The theme was focused on “being under construction” and the fact that we are growing, changing and being made new each day…   just like our new building.

We work to build lives for ourselves, to build up the people around us and to build up our neighborhoods and communities – both literally and figuratively.  As God’s creations, we are also always “under construction” as God works in our lives.

"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ" Philippians 1:6
